David and Goliath

David & Goliath - Size Doesn't Matter

The New Zealand Small Business Awards

David was a young sheperd boy who took on Goliath, a Philistine Warrior/Giant to settle a dispute. David picks up 5 stones from a riverbed but only uses one to slain Goliath with a slingshot directly between the eyes to knock Goliath out. After Goliath's fall; David picked up Goliath's sword to cut off his head. David's victory indicated that he was worthy to become Israel's next King.

The moral of this story was that size doesn't matter. David is small but he was not afraid of taking on this giant because he had faith that he would succeed. This story is the inspiration behind the New Zealand Small Business Awards. The David Awards commenced in 2008 to recognise the unsung heroes in home and small business – the Kiwi Davids taking on the Goliaths of the New Zealand business landscape.

This year they had the largest number of finalists for each category than ever before with an extremely diverse range of businesses across sectors for products and services. David’s five river stones represent Courage, Tenacity, Ingenuity, Excellence and Authenticity. We are so proud to have been awards some stones and to be considered as finalist in this years awards.
